Dermal Fillers Restylane® and Perlane®

What are Restylane® and Perlane®?

The Restylane® family of products includes Restylane® and Perlane.® Both are aesthetic dermal fillers that add lost volume and restore youthful contours to the skin to smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).

How do I choose between Restylane® and Perlane®?

You don’t have to. Restylane and Perlane are made of hyaluronic acid made from the same biotechnical process. The difference is in the gel particle size. The gel particles in Perlane® have a larger median particle size and are designed for deeper injection than Restylane.® Your doctor will decide which product is right for you.

How long do the effects of Restylane® and Perlane®?

Restylane® products deliver long-lasting results. According to a clinical study, Restylane® continued to provide results up to 18 months after initial treatment when patients returned for a follow-up treatment at 4.5 or 9 months. In fact, at least 95% of patients in this study continued to show improvement at 18 months. Perlane maintained its effect for at least six months, in a majority of patients. Some Perlane patients maintained results for up to 9 months in clinical trials.

JUVÉDERM®

JUVÉDERM® is a safe and natural dermal filler that helps fill in wrinkles, creases and folds and can also be used to plump up your lips. No allergy testing is required, so JUVÉDERM® injections can be administered immediately, in just one visit.

JUVÉDERM® works very well with BOTOX® and is often used in conjunction with BOTOX® to maximize your results.

How does JUVÉDERM® work?

JUVÉDERM® is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the human body. JUVÉDERM® is injected into the skin, which lifts up the wrinkle or fold and immediately smoothes them out. It can also be used to produce volume for the lips.

How is a JUVÉDERM® procedure performed?

JUVÉDERM® is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts with an ultra-fine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. The procedure is simple and quick, and results are immediate. A topical numbing cream is used 45 minutes before the procedure to minimize discomfort. A topical anesthetic or a mini-dental block can be administered prior to lip injections, which makes the injection painless. After JUVÉDERM® injection of lips, slight swelling of the lips typically occurs and lasts approximately 48 hours.

What areas can JUVÉDERM® be used?

The most popular areas are the lips, nasolabial folds (the crease from the nose to the corner of your lips), droopy corners of the mouth, and the lines around the lips. JUVÉDERM® can help define the lip borders (no more bleeding lipstick!) and give the appearance of a fuller lip.

How long will the results of a JUVÉDERM® treatment last?

JUVÉDERM® effects typically last 6 months and up to one year, depending on the area. Treatments are usually scheduled twice a year. Evidence shows that having touch-up treatments before JUVÉDERM® has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect. In addition, concurrent BOTOX® treatment will also help the JUVÉDERM® last longer.

How is JUVÉDERM® different from BOTOX®?

JUVÉDERM® is a natural filler. In contrast, BOTOX® is a drug that relaxes the underlying muscle that is causing the wrinkle. Many patients choose to have both procedures since they work well together to improve different types of wrinkle.
